Renewable Energy *

Biogas and biomass can be used to displace fossil fuels for heat and power generation. Both biogas and biomass are renewable energy resources whose utilization can yield substantial economic and environmental benefits.

Biogas is a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide naturally created in the process of anaerobic digestion of organic waste. Properly collected and handled, biogas from anaerobic digestors can be used for steam generation in an existing boiler with few and inexpensive modifications.

Electricity can also be generated from biogas using dedicated gensets which couple an electric generator with an internal combustion engine designed to work on biogas.

The use of biomass (wood, agricultural residues, etc.) as a fuel requires specialized boilers, yet the energy savings are often such that the investment is recovered in very short time. Cargill is a world leader in the use of renewable energy in plant operations and in the
sourcing and trading of biomass. CEF puts that experience at the service of our customers world-wide.
